Grow and Go - Water Series - Session #10

This week’s destination: JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD

MATERIALS: Print Bible Verse Visual Aid. Crayons. Cloths and props for the drama. Hide and seek Book Marks. Balloons. Messages to insert into the balloons for the Team Game. Jesus outfit, (white and blue wraps) Print visual aids

Welcome, as the children arrive get them to colour the colouring pages and visual aids that will be used during the session. DOWNLOAD Visual Aids DOWNLOAD Session #10 Teaching

1. WELCOME GAME: (10 minutes) 'He is risen' Hide and Seek: Print off and cut out the Book Marks, hide them about the room and get the children to seek them, one per child. DOWNLOAD 'He is alive' Book Marks

2. TEAM GAMES: (10 minutes)

SURPRISE BALLOON POPPING: Before class begins, the teacher will have enough balloons blown up for each child. Inside the balloon will be words from our lesson or today's Bible verse. Divide the children into teams. Each child will run to a box of balloons, take a balloon and pop it by stomping on it. The game will continue until each child has popped a balloon. THEN the team will try to put the words from the balloons into an order that will tell today's Bible story. (Examples: one balloon can have JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS; another balloon could say TWO WOMEN WENT TO THE GRAVE WHERE JESUS WAS BURIED. Another balloon paper might say THE STONE HAD BEEN ROLLED AWAY; another balloon could say THE GRAVE WAS EMPTY; another would say THEY WERE SURPRISED TO FIND AN EMPTY GRAVE; another balloon paper could say, ANGELS TALKED TO THE TWO WOMEN AND SAID THAT JESUS WAS NOT THERE; another could have written JESUS IS NOT HERE; another could say HE HAS RISEN JUST AS HE SAID. If the teacher needs more papers for larger teams, other words could be added, such as WE ARE HAPPY THAT JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS, and JESUS LOVES US VERY MUCH, etc.)

4. INTIMATE WORSHIP: (5 minutes)

5. TEACHING: a. Review: Last session we learnt that God solved the problem of man's separation from Him by sending Jesus His son, who is God, and who lived a perfect, POWERFUL life but then died on the cross because He loves us and so our sins can be forgiven. c. Teach the Lesson

This week we will learn that He rose from the dead, and He is in Heaven now, offering us the FREE gift of eternal life.

After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary ( Allot two girls, give them cloths to cover their heads ) they went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; ( angel dressed in white wrap and gold sash ) for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. (Prior to lesson create a tomb using chairs with one at the front to represent the stone ) His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. ( Allot two boys, armed with sticks who fall down like dead men )

I suspect that the two Marys were pretty frightened by all of this. (Two girls, shaking and holding to each other in fear)

The messenger understood how they felt and said, " Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay." (Angel takes the girls inside the tomb ) (Use Mat. 28:6 visual aid ) DOWNLOAD Bible Verse Visual Aid

"No way!"  they said.

"Yes!"  said the messenger.  " Come and look in the tomb. He isn't in here any more !"

"Where is he?"  they asked.

"He's on his way to Galilee,"  said the messenger. (Women look shocked )

"What should we do?"  asked the women.

"You have a very important job,"  said the angel.  "Go to find the rest of the disciples. Tell them Jesus is alive! Tell them to go to Galilee to meet him."

So off they went. But along the way, Jesus met them. (Child allocated to be Jesus, try and use the same boy for each session )

They ran up to him. They fell to the ground and held onto his legs, crying for joy. They were so happy!

But Jesus said the same thing as the angel had said:  Then Jesus said to them,  "Don't be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go on to Galilee. They will see me there." (Use Mat. 28:10 visual aid ) DOWNLOAD Bible Verse Visual Aid

The women said,  " We aren't afraid any more! We were afraid we'd never see you again. But now you are back!"

Jesus said,  "I know you aren't afraid of not seeing me. I'm saying you don't need to be afraid of the other things - the big things."

"What big things?"  asked the Marys.

"Most people are afraid of dying ,"  he said.  " But I fought a battle with death and I WON! Death is conquered. Now as I told you go tell my other friends to meet me in Galilee." (Girls exit)

So those two women went and told the Apostles and the rest. They were the first to hear the Good News that Jesus was alive - that he had conquered death. They were the first to be told to share that Good News with others - so that they wouldn't have to be afraid any more.

And I'll tell you something: For a very long time, Christians had a very hard time. For hundreds of years, many Christians were killed for following Jesus.

But one of the things that people noticed was that the Christians were not afraid to die. They knew that Jesus had conquered death. He's alive! Jesus had showed them that they didn't need to be afraid of death any more. DOWNLOAD Colouring Pages

DISCUSSION:

I wonder what the Marys felt inside when they say the earthquake and the angel.

I wonder what they thought and felt when the angel and Jesus told them they didn't have to be afraid.

I wonder if sometimes they were afraid anyway.

I wonder if you've ever been so afraid that you couldn't sleep at night.

I wonder, in these crazy days if you ever feel worried or afraid.

6. APPLICATION / ENCOUNTERING GOD:

PRAYER: Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart

(You may want the children to repeat after you this prayer )

If you want to give your life to Jesus, please pray this prayer after me.

"Heavenly Father - thank you for giving me the gift of life - here on your beautiful earth, - thank you that you want to give me - the free gift of eternal life. - I know that I can never be good enough - to earn this free gift, - I can never deserve it - or work hard enough for it.

I know now - that sin stops me from getting this gift. - And I know we are all sinners,- separated from You.- I understand now - that there must be a different way - and there is Your way!- I know that you are loving - and you do not want to punish me - but I also know that You are just - and You must punish sin. - I am in big trouble - I have a big problem - but I thank You for solved that problem - by sending Your son Jesus.- Thank you that Jesus lived a perfect and powerful life. - Thank you Jesus - that you were prepared to die on the cross - to pay the penalty, - the price, for my sins. - Thank you - that You rose from the dead - on the third day - and you are in Heaven now - offering me the free gift of eternal life.

I want to turn from my naughty, bad ways. -All the things that I do, - or don't do, - think and say - that displease you, - I repent, - I am truly sorry, - I turn from my old ways now. - Please cleanse me - and forgiven me - of my sins - I want to follow you.- Please come into my life - and take control, - I receive this gift by Faith - with a thankful heart, - thank you for welcoming me - into the Family of God. - Amen"
