Proverbs 21: 3 To do righteousness and justice
Is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
God gave them the law to realize how much they needed a Saviour.
NT Righteousness teaches us we should not depend upon ourselves
or our good works for salvation. Only by faith in the free gift
that Jesus has given us.
Jesus was tempted, but He never gave in to any temptation, he was
blameless and He was declared righteousness.
Jesus earned Righteousness and He trades us His Righteousness in
exchange for our sin.
The Great Exchange
#1 Do not depend on how good you are to be saved
#2 Do depend on the Grace of the Lord Jesus and
the free gift of Righteousness that you didn’t earn and can’t
keep.
#3 Continue to have faith in that free gift of
righteous and not feel it takes your obedience to keep that righteousness,
you could not earn it and you cannot retain in by obedience you
receive it by faith
#4 Now we have received that free gift of righteousness
you are now made worthy to receive the blessings.
No one can out sin the Grace of God.
Romans 6: 1-2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may
abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer
in it?
Once we have received this free gift, we should honour God by walking
out our righteousness as a response to His grace. Righteous is a
free gift but God does ask us to walk right before Him
#1 God prefers righteousness over repentance.
1 Samuel 15: 3
3 Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have,
and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing
child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”
God told King Saul why
1 Samuel 15: 2
2 Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what
he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up
from Egypt.
God had sworn that He would totally destroy them, they attacked
His people and He operates by covenant.
1 Samuel 15: 8-9
8 He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed
all the people with the edge of the sword.
But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep,
the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were
unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless,
that they utterly destroyed.
King Saul tires to pretend he obeyed God
1 Samuel 15: 13
13 Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed
are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”
Partial obedience is disobedience.
1 Samuel 15: 14
14 But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep
in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”
1 Samuel 15: 15
15 And Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites;
for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice
to the Lord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”
We come up with a better idea than what God said.
The original deception
Genesis 3:1-4
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which
the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God
indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit
of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which
is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not
eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely
die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will
be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Stop speculating, you don’t know what God knows, only what
He says.
1 Samuel 15: 22
22 So Samuel said:
“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than
sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
Some people say “It’s easier to get forgiveness than
to get permission”
But it’s obedience that delights the Lord.
Parents don’t just want an apology they want obedience from
their children.
God is not just looking for a confession to sin, He is looking at
repentance, a change in lifestyle, a 180 degree turn.
John the Baptist said bear fruit worthy of repentance. Let’s
see it in your life.
If you are sincere show it with your life not just your mouth.
To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable and pleasing
to God than sacrifice.
#2 Righteousness delights God
When you live righteously before God it makes Him smile.
Proverbs 11: 20
Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord,
But the blameless in their ways are His delight.
Not a perfect person but someone walking in integrity
Pleasing the Lord means you work with a higher law than man’s
laws. (Click)
When you are going to walk in righteousness before the Lord (Click)
you have to listen to God because He is working on us in various
areas.
When you are by yourself, a thought comes to your mind and you
are tempted to do something you know you should not do.
“No one will even know” But God knows.
#3 God defends the righteous
Proverbs 2: 7
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He is a shield, he does not provide a shield, He gets between you
and the assault coming against you.
Proverbs 11:8
The righteous is delivered from trouble,
And it comes to the wicked instead.
#4 God blesses the righteous
Proverbs 15:6
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure,
But in the revenue of the wicked is trouble.
God is concerned about you having a love of money, God want to
show everybody how well He treats His righteous people
Proverbs 13:22
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
This is reality, God fully intends sinners to store up wealth so
He can transfer it into our account. But we must walk with integrity,
we must consider our ways, are we walking in righteousness? God
is looking to show Himself glorious in our lives. When you lay your
life down for the Lord, He takes good care of you.
Isaiah 1: 19
If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;
Proverbs 16: 7
When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
I want to delight the Lord, I don’t just want to walk righteous
in the eyes of man, and people think I am righteous I want to delight
the Lord.
