Jerry Dirmann – The Fear of the
Lord Part 1
Proverbs 1: 1- 6
Solomon starts off by introducing himself, then he explains the
purpose of the book.
Young people think they know it all, a wise man will listen up,
and ask for help to understand difficult things. You will find someone
to help you understand, but fools hate somebody telling them something
they don’t know.
Where does Solomon start?
Proverbs 1: 7
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
This is the greatest thing you can teach your children. Life does
not always teach you the truth about God. He sees all, and is everywhere.
Job 28: 28
28 And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that
is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’”
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart
from evil is understanding.’
In discipleship you need to explain about the fear of the Lord.
How desperate I was, what a great gap there was between me and God
only then can you understand the goodness of God and the free gift.
Imagine every time I make a mistake I don’t get kicked out
of the family of God. Oh no my fellowship may be broken but not
my relationship is intact it is not based on my righteousness but
that of Christ. Without the fear of the Lord they are not motivated
to serve God.
Often we talk about the Grace of God but we don’t like to
talk about judgment. Many people just want to go to a church were
they get encouragement and no condemnation. Fools do not want to
get wise council, I don’t just want the beginning of wisdom
I want the full knowledge. But the beginning is the fear of God.
Proverbs 9: 10
10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will
be added to you.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff,
you will bear it alone.”
Proverbs 15: 33a
The fear of the Lord is the instruction (discipline) of wisdom
If all I do is recognize that you are God that is not the fear
of the Lord. The fear is being afraid that God will do what He said
He would do, that the Bible is going to play out as it says it will
play out. The fear of the Lord is being afraid that things will
turn out as God said it would. If God said don’t do something,
don’t do it.
There is no one more loving than God but there is no way around
Him, He is trying to get your attention but if you harden your heart
to Him and He continues to warn you and send others to warn you
and stop going to church the day will come when what God will do
what He said He would do, we have a choice. It is not just respect.
A healthy fear of God is a discipline that will alter our behavior
and you don’t compromise.
Proverbs 8: 13
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the
evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.
If you condone sin, justify it you are deficient in the fear of
the Lord. The fear of the Lord believes that sin will destroy people.
Proverbs 3: 7
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.
The fear of the Lord will not let you think you have a better idea
than God.
Proverbs 3: 8
It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
Proverbs 10: 27
The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked
will be shortened.
Fear the Lord and live a long and healthy life. Children learn
the fear of the Lord by parents being consistently right with the
children.
Proverbs 14: 26
26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And His children
will have a place of refuge.
The fear of the Lord gives us confidence and produces a safe refuge
where the children can run back to a healthy home.
Proverbs 14: 27
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away
from the snares of death.
A continual flow of blessings a fountain of the good life, it will
keep you from all the pitfalls and traps
Proverbs 15: 16
Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure
with trouble.
Would you trade the fear of the Lord for the place of Bill Gates?
What will it profit a man if he gain the whole world but lose his
soul.

Proverbs 19: 23a
The fear of the Lord leads to life, And he who has it will abide
in satisfaction;
Satisfaction is fulfillment and it comes from God. If you fear
the Lord you will have a healthy fulfillment with God.
Don’t ignore wisdom, God wants to pour His spirit out on
you. The time will come if you continue to turn your back on wisdom,
then wisdom will turn her back on you.
Choose the fear of the Lord. God is reaching out don’t ignore
wisdom.
Proverbs 2: 1
2 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within
you,
Receive and treasure His Word so you can incline your ear to listen.
