Africa Chichewa Moringa Reforestation Programme Stage #1

SOWING SEEDS OF SUCCESS AFRICA MORINGA REFORESTATION PROGRAMME -
STAGE #1

Introduction:

United Caribbean Trust (UCT) began as a faith-based organization to help the victims of hurricane Ivan in the tri island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique during September 2004.

What started as a primary concern to help render relief after damage assessment and consultation with community leaders has swiftly grown into an initiative fueled by a 'vision'.

A vision that seeks not only to help the Caribbean but other countries in establishing a series of

Empowerment programs that will bring socioeconomic changes to those who reside in impoverished countries focusing especially on women and children.

Over the years UCT has injected an enormous amount of sweat equity into laying the foundations for our 'Sowing Seeds of Success' Africa Reforestation programme.

We established an African charity the AFRICA BUREAU OF CHILDREN DISCIPLESHIP (ABCD) a charitable Organisation dedicated to infusing hope, health and happy memories by improving the quality of life for the African children with their families through several key programmes.

Ms. Jenny Tryhane , Founder and CEO of UCT has personally visited Africa twice, establishing a massive network of schools and churches that are poised now to establish this reforestation project.

Ten years ago DRC embarked on a vast tree-planting programme to guard against the twin scourges of deforestation and soil degradation that plague many African states. The region has been hit hard by the pressures of deforestation, as limited access to electricity forces people to cut down trees to serve their heating and lighting needs, with coal fueled stoves still dominant in food preparation.  UN's environment programme (UNEP) says deforestation is intensifying due to growing energy demand.

According to the National Forest Authority, in the past 25 years Uganda has lost 63% of its forest coverage due to tree-cutting - for firewood, timber, and charcoal - as well as for the growth of agriculture and towns.

Between 1990 and 2010 Tanzania has lost 19.4% of its forested land, or around 8 million hectares.

In Malawi, deforestation is estimated to be responsible for the loss of 33,000 hectares per year, and is mainly attributed to agriculture expansion, tobacco growing, and excessive use of biomass

Our one year 'Sowing Seeds of Success' educational children's curriculum will work to reeducate the children in Africa on the value of planting trees, especially Moringa trees! It is a two year programme bridging the gap back to the Caribbean where the first 4 months of both programmes will take place.

The children will also be taught about Jesus the true vine, and God the Father, the Gardener. Although our children's curriculum is educational it also has a Spiritual side that will nurture the children spiritually over the year, like watering and nurturing a small seed from germination to maturity. Seeds, like children, come in different shapes, colours and sizes, but every seed carries within it all the potential and the promise of what it can become. This curriculum will help develop character in the children developing their full potential as we sow seeds of success.

Sowing Seeds of Success Africa Reforestation Children's Curriculum (Chichewa)

•  Sowing Seeds of Success 12 Part Series

•  This curriculum starts with the   Introduction to MORINGA . Educating the children on the nutritional benefits of Moringa Oleifera, recognized as the 'Miracle Tree', 'Mother's Milk', 'Mlonge', ' Zagalanda', ' Mupulanga', 'Idagbo monoyé', ' Mvungué', ' Chamwamba'.

•  Introduction to Sowing Seeds of Success  is a 4 week educational teaching on sowing seeds in the natural and in the Spiritual. Seeds require different types of soils, water, sunlight, time and just the right temperature to flourish and grow. Botanists will tell you that the  soil  determines the health and strength of a plant. The better the soil, the healthier, the more fruitful and stronger the plant will be, in these four week sessions the children will be i ntroduced to the  Sowers Parable .

•  Introduction to NURTURING of the Moringa Seed  - This four part series focuses on the 'Nurturing' of the seed and Moringa sapling. The children will have already learnt in order to grow plants need sunlight and water.

Here they will learn that gardens need to be weeded. Just like we need to weed the sin out of our lives. They will be taught just as their Moringa plant needs protection from bugs, goats etc, they need to guard it, similarly they will learn that they need to guard their hearts , how to s et a guard over their mouth , their eyes and ears .

In order to grow, plants sometimes need to be pruned especially Moringa. In order for Christians to grow sometimes God has to prune our lives. God shapes us and creates us to be what He wants us to be. Sometimes that is a bit uncomfortable, but He does it for our good because all things work together for our good.

•  Introduction to the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT . A tree is recognized by its fruit. The children will learn they cannot live life without God and produce good fruit.

•  This curriculum ends with HARVESTING  the Moringa. The harvest Jesus was talking about in the Bible was not Moringa harvesting. He was sending out workers to bring people into the Kingdom of God. He said that there were many souls who were ready to be harvested, but there were not enough workers. Let's pray for workers to join us in His harvest field. The follow up from this curriculum is a 12 part series on  SUPER FRUITS .

•  Super Fruits 12 Part Series introducing 12 super fruits and the Fruit of the Spirit

Each 'Fruit of the Sprit' session allows us to introduce the child to a  Super Fruit, including Mango, Pomegranates, Avocados, Guava, Papaya, Banana, Breadfruit, Soursop, Fig and Mulberry. Children will learn not only about the nutritional benefits of all of these Super Fruits but the medicinal benefits of the leaves. They will learn how to graft the trees, nurture and prune them. With each lesson the school will be given a fruit tree, from our plant nursery, to be established to compliment this programme. This will build up an school orchard to supply the children with fresh fruit.

Videos can be downloaded, visual aids have been produced in French and Creole and other languages designed for Africa as well. Super Fruits Handouts have been created for the children to take home in their language for their parents or guardians.

•  Grow and Go - 10 part Series (To be translated)

Most of these countries have chapters of the Africa Training Bible School . (ATBS)

•  DR Congo - North east

•  Uganda - West and East

•  Tanzania - South and Dar Es Salaam

•  Malawi - North

•  Nigeria - South west

•  Kenya

Phase #1

UCT, ATBS and ABCD have established excellent connections in these countries with contacts in schools, churches, orphanages and Bible Schools. Years of training have positioned us to now implement this excellent 'Sowing Seeds of Success' Africa children's reforestation programme. Links have been provided above to demonstrate some of our many visits to Africa and connections established.

Two teachers will be recommended and interviewed from each country within our vast network of Churches/Bible Schools and schools in these countries. In some countries such as Uganda and Tanzania four teachers will selected, two from each region, west and east Uganda, north and south Tanzania. They must be bilingual and have experience with children's ministry, 16 teachers in total will be sponsored.

ABCD will sponsor the flights to Barbados and a small stipend of US $200 per month per person to cover personal expenses when on island. UCT will provide the food and accommodation and will be responsible for all training which will be done by professionally trained children's ministers, personally or online.

Training will include teaching in numerous children's ministries, teachings from IHOP, Operation Solid Lives, Stonecroft Ministries. Online training in disaster management and horticulture.

•  Kids in Ministry International online training

•  Kids EE in person training and practical experience

•  International House of Prayer Mike Bickle Eschatology teachings

•  United Caribbean Trust is desirous of partnering with various International Ministries and Organizations and is seeking permission to translate and adapt some of the teaching to use in the  Africa Training Bible School   in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and DR Congo as well as adapt them to suit the youth in our communities within the Caribbean especially in Haiti and in Africa.

One such International Organization  Stonecroft  has been approached to translated and adapt their  Trinity Series  for the Pastors in Africa. Translation is under way into  Swahili  for Tanzania and Kenya,  Chichewa  for Malawi,  French  for DR Congo and  Yoruba  for Nigeria.

•  Teachings from Pastor Jerry Dirmann  the founder of OPERATION Solid Lives, a life-changing discipleship system, in which thousands of students have been and continue to be saturated with the Word of God. Including the  Proverbs Series , an excellent  Youth Sexual Immorality Series  and the  Marriage Series .

•  We have also adapted the  OSL Level 1  into a Youth version and tested this programme at  Mount Zion's Missions Barbados Foursquare Church  very successfully.

•  Teaching will include Crisis Response International (CRI) online training. CRI train individuals and churches to meet the unique  spiritual, physical, and emotional needs  that arise in urgent times of crisis and disaster. After training, volunteers are screened, credentialed, and become eligible for deployment to relief operations around the world. This online training will be a crucial part of the Phase 1 training and will compliment our children's Post Traumatic Stress programme 'Heal a Hurting Heart.' Written in French especially for the terrible volcanic eruption that impacted DR Congo recently. There is also a cyclone and flood natural disaster and a COVID version in French and Swahili.

Training will involve 'in house teaching', online and in person teaching and 'on the job experience' within 5 communities in Barbados - New Orleans, Emmerton, Deacons, Gall Hill and Eden Lodge. Connecting with these communities through Mount Zion's Missions Barbados Foursquare Church. A minimum of 3 teachers plus a local Community Outreach Trainer will teach initially the 'Sowing Seeds of Success' 12 week series in each of the five After School Clubs, Monday to Friday 16.00 to 18.00. The second semester will repeat this exercise but with the second curriculum 'Super Fruits' The third semester will teach the Go and Grow Series and the final semester will teach the Spiritual Growth and New Life 13 part Series.

Phase #2

All 16 African graduates will return to Africa having enjoyed the last two weeks in Barbados on holiday enjoying the beauty of our beautiful Caribbean island home.

The two teachers from each zone within the African countries will return with their curriculum packs. They will be employed at the going rate of employment for a teacher in Africa which is currently US $200 per month for the next year.

Bishop David Akondowi, our UCT Tanzania Representative and a Director of ABCD, will have negotiated, in advance, with his regional network in the Africa Training Bible School to establish three pilot projects in three schools or churches in both zones in Tanzania, working with Pastor Immanuel in Dar-es-Salaam.

Three pilot projects will be identified in northern Malawi working with Pastor Sam to identify the best selections such as places like Uliwa all associated with ATBS to take part in Phase #3 over the year.

Bishop Pinos one of the ABCD Trustees will use his connections in north east DR Congo to identify three pilot projects in three schools/orphanages or churches in that region.

Rev Abraham Kisembo our UCT Uganda Representative and a Director of ABCD, will identify three pilot projects in three schools/orphanages or churches in western Uganda working with Pastor Tom in Bundibugyo  a nd three in eastern Uganda on the Kenyan border, working with Pastor Sarah and her husband Pastor David

Bishop Ogala our Kenya Representative will identify three schools/orphanages or churches in Kenya.

Finally Pastor Blessing from Nigeria will do the same thing in his country identify three pilot projects.

20 children will be allocated to take part in each pilot project per school/orphanage or church. This will involve two afternoons per week in two school, plus one afternoon per week and a Saturday Sowing Seeds of Success Club in the third school. This is a trial Pilot Project where the curriculum is edited and adapted if needed to be culturally sensitive to be used in each African country.

After every afternoon session the teachers meet, via Zoom if possible, to assess how successful the lesson was, to critique and edit and make any changes that need to be made before the next teaching. By the third school/church the lesson should have been perfected and be ready for printing.

All printing will be done in house and commercial printers will be purchased and set up in strategic printing stations:

•  Mbeya in Tanzania to handle the south east countries eg Malawi and south Tanzania.

•  Nairobi to cover printing requirements of Kenya and west Uganda.

•  Bundibugyo to cover west Uganda and north east DR Congo

•  Nigeria in Akure, Ondo State

Each pair of teachers will be equipped with a laptop to enable them to download the videos for the songs to be sung as well as the educational videos that can be downloaded from our website. Some of the schools or churches involved in the Pilot Project will have a monitor or TV so the laptop can be connected and the children can enjoy the teaching. This laptop will also be used for Zoom meetings.

Additional stipends will be paid to help cover additional expenses during this Phase #2 Pilot Project including crayons, paper, pens markers, glue etc that may be needed to assist with the creation of visual aids needed to teach the lessons.

Additional expenses will be covered by ABCD including drinks and snacks for the children during Phase #2. Two weeks holiday will be taken at the end prior to Phase #3.

ABCD will sponsor Phase #3 which includes two 3 weeks Summer Camps per Zone in each country. Our teachers will have access to these Camps to test the last curriculum prior to printing.

Phase #3

Following a two week holiday at the end of Phase #2 the teachers will begin the Summer Camp programme. This is done during the Summer Holidays. Each couple of teachers will work with two local summer camps to test the final curriculum prior to printing.

Three week 'Summer Camp' Programme (15 sessions per camp to be translated.)

•  Grow and Go Series - Natural Growth review

•  Grow and Go Spiritual Growth Series - 5 Part Series

•  Follow Me Kids Discipleship Training 'FunTastic Fun Fair' - afternoon session

•  New Life Kids Discipleship Training curriculum - 8 Part Series

Following the afternoon Session #1 in the first Summer Camp the teachers will meet, via Zoom, to assess how successful the Session #1 was, to critique and edit and make any changes that need to be made before the next Session #1 teaching which will take place the next morning in the second Summer Camp.

That second afternoon she will teach Session #2 in the first Summer Camp the teachers will meet following the lesson, via Zoom, to assess how successful the Session #2 was, to critique and edit and make any changes that need to be made before the next Session #2 teaching which will take place the next morning in the second Summer Camp. This process will be duplicated with a Zoom meeting to assess the lessons, which once edited will be tested the next morning in the second Summer Camp for the three week period.

Once the curriculum has been finally tested and corrected it will then be printed for distribution in Phase #4.

All the sewing for the props used in the drama within all the curriculum will be sown by the Tanzania women's empowerment program.

Phase #4

Following the three weeks children's Summer Camp project the teachers will embark on the final leg - Phase #4 to complete their one year contract. This is a vital part of their training to teach other teachers that are interested in introducing this Sowing Seeds of Success Africa Reforestation Programme into their schools, orphanages or churches. This is the final empowerment and equipping aspect of this project.

96 half day workshops will have been organized in advance using our African Representative's vast network of schools, orphanages and churches in all the African countries within the programme. (12 per country over a four week period up until the end of the Summer holidays X 8 countries = 96)

Half day workshops will be hosted from 12 noon to 6pm with a break for refreshments in the afternoon. It is uncertain how many teachers will be interested in coming to the workshops, but from past experience there is such a shortage of good children's ministry teaching and material in Swahili and Chichewa that the response was overwhelming and we believe it will be the same again.

Each ministry, school or orphanage taught in these half day workshops will be provided with a 'Sowing Seeds of Success' pack which will mean the teachers are not only empowered but equipped with all that they need to introduce this year long programme into their organization.

This programme can easily flow into our Heal a Hurting Heart curriculum and the new teachers/Sunday school teachers/Orphanage aids will be taught about this curriculum and can be issued with it in the future if they want to embark in this curriculum be it for Post Traumatic Stress for the Volcanic Eruption in DR Congo translated into French, or flooding translated into Swahili for Tanzania or Portuguese for Mozambique. as well as COVID stress that the children are dealing with following this pandemic already translated into French for DR Congo, and Portuguese for Mozambique.

Reforestation:

ABCD is hoping to be able to establish a fruit plant nursery in each country to be able to continue to sponsor these new schools, orphanages or churches embarking on our Sowing Seeds of Success Africa Reforestation Programme, by supplying them each with the 12 week French SUPER FRUITS

Long term ABCD is hoping to be able to purchase some agriculture land in many of these countries. We have already placed a deposit on a large agriculture land in Uganda. Moringa training has already been started in Africa in 2015 and land has been acquired to establish a Moringa Nursery . Here we hope to establish a Moringa processing plant, as part of our "Food For Life Africa"

Manufacturing organic Moringa tea, Dried Moringa Powder to add to cooking as well as Moringa soap and cream for cosmetic purposes. We have established a European market to sell these Moringa products to bring in additional revenue to continue to fund this excellent reforestation programme.

Summary:

•  16 teachers will graduated from our first one year Programme from six African countries

•  5 Barbadian communities in Phase #1 will benefit from the 12 week 'Sowing Seeds of Success' Moringa programme. Planting hundreds of Moringa trees including educating the people of the nutritional and medicinal benefits of this 'Miracle Tree'.

•  480 African children will take part in the Phase #2 Pilot Project (24 pilot projects X 20 children) to test the curriculum prior to being printed in mass. Resulting in over 480 Moringa trees being planted at home or in the school/church or orphanage if possible.

•  12 small Super Fruit trees will be donated to each school/church or orphanage taking part in the Phase #2 Pilot Project resulting in over 288 fruit trees being planted, establishing 24 orchards within the school/church or orphanage if possible as part of our School Kitchen Garden programme.

•  "Food For Life Africa"

•  16 Summer Camps and 320 children will benefit from teaching of the Grow and Go and New Life curriculums.
