Efik - Heal a Hurting Heart
Thank you for your interest in learning more about the Efik Heal
a Hurting Heart (HHH) children's curriculum.
The structure of this Heal a Hurting Heart Training and children's
Curriculum follows the
Bible Society Healing Hearts Club, a
Bible-based Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) healing programme for children
who have experienced war, abuse, or a similar human or natural disaster.
Their original programme was written for the children of DR Congo
and we are grateful to be able to follow the same structure and
guidelines establishing a Caribbean Hurricane version and expanding
into an African Cyclone and Flood versions. More recently this has
been extended to cover the Corona Crisis worldwide.
Each of the lessons includes a Bible Story, following the life
of Joseph and a comparable 'real-life' and 'culturally
sensitive' children's Story Book about the experiences of a
family who live through a devastating hurricane, flood, or the Pandemic.
Children can see the effects of trauma, learn how to work through
their emotional and spiritual pain, and experience God’s love
for them.
The Story Book features a family and especially a little boy, who
learns about healing through the words of the Bible. Parts of the
story book "And Puppy' which accompanies the
curriculum was written and developed by the women and children of
Dominica following hurricane Maria in 2017.
Activities, such as drawing a picture of happy and painful memories,
help them understand what they’re feeling so they can deal
with their trauma and eventually work through it. Dance, art, drama
and play therapy is used to heal the broken hearts.
The Pattern of Ministry follows the same pattern as Kids
In Ministry International because most of our
teachers Regionally and Internationally, especially in Africa, have
been trained in this excellent Children's Ministry, which following
the 'Tabernacle Pattern of Ministry.'
This English Hurricane, Flood and Corona Crisis
HHH programme focuses on the English speaking islands of the
Caribbean and CARICOM. Many have over
the years been devastated by natural disaster, such as Guyana, Grenada,
Barbuda, Dominica and the Bahamas.
United Caribbean Relief has worked in all these
areas and we are delighted to be able to introduce this new PTS
children's Programme.
A Dutch version is being created for flooding
in Suriname as well as the Corona Crisis in Holland
The Spanish HHH Flood, Hurricane and Corona Crisis
versions have been created with the Spanish speaking children of
the Caribbean, including Cuba and Dominican
Republic, in mind. And more recently the children in Spain
experiencing the Corona Crisis.
The curriculum has been adapted and is being translated into Spanish
to also cover the 'Economic Disaster' in Venezuela
as well
Translation is underway in Swahili the official
language in Tanzania and Kenya and
is also widely spoken in Uganda, the Democratic
Republic of Congo. It's also spoken by smaller numbers
in Burundi, Rwanda, Northern Zambia, Malawi and
Mozambique.
Translation has begun into Chichewa, or Chewa,
a Bantu language spoken in parts of Malawi , where
it is an official national language along with English, and also
in Zambia , Mozambique
A French translation is almost complete for Chad,
Rwanda and DR Congo as well as the French
speaking Caribbean islands including Guadeloupe, Martinique
and Haiti.
A Haitian Creole version has been created for
the precious children in Haiti who are so often exposed to natural
and economical disasters.
And more recently the children in France experiencing
the Corona Crisis.
This story has been adapted to cover a Cyclone and is being translated
into Portuguese to help the children of Mozambique.
And more recently the children in Brazil experiencing
the Corona Crisis.
This curriculum is a partnership between Lifeline
Ministries Dominica and United
Caribbean Trust.
Recently a three week of Children's Deliverance has been incorporated
into the curriculum. It follows Lesson #8 which is the Children's
Evangelism Session.
Each of the three Deliverance Sessions are accompanied by a Deliverance
Training PowerPoint for the Teacher, including Handouts and Warfare
Prayers for the youth. Deliverance teaching has been adapted from
Warfare Plus Ministries (Living Free Ministries)
These three weeks can be omitted if the church does not want to
embark on Deliverance and Lesson #8 the Children's Evangelism Lesson
can lead onto Lesson #12 the Forgiveness teaching.
From a child's point of view, we have entered into a very strange
time. Schools are closed and its not yet holidays! There is no football
training, sports, no swimming, no drama, music or dance classes.
Not even church as usual!
They are not allowed to visit their friends or even their grandparents.
No shopping, trips to the beach, walks in the park. As we all know
this is all because of the Coronavirus. Because of the magnitude
of this Corvid 19 Crisis we have adapted this programme to assist
parents, family members, school staff, youth Pastors, Sunday school
teachers and other trusted adults who can play an important role
in helping children make sense of what they hear in a way that is
honest, accurate, and minimizes anxiety or fear. Using God's Biblical
principles as well as the arts and drama to help the children living
through what has become to many a nightmare.
The Heal a Hurying Heart 12 or 15 week Disaster Management Programme
is followed by a Reforestation/ Nutritional 12 week SuperFood Moringa
Curriculum - Sowing
the Jesus Seed which is followed by a 12 week
Super
Fruit Curriculum.
We are delighted to now include this new Efik Flood curriculum.
Efik is the native language of the Efik people of Nigeria, where
it is a national language. It is the official language of Cross
River State in Nigeria.
