Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father we thank you for the five means of growing Spiritually. Thank you for your Word that we will learn more about today. Give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation now during this teaching. Help us to learn to pray and worship you. Thank you for our Christian brothers and sisters who we can have fellowship with. Give us opportunities to share our faith as we stand witness for Jesus and what He has done in our lives. As we do all these things we will grow Spiritually in Jesus name we pray. Amen

We learnt that life is a free gift, but God has a gift He wants to give us, the gift of eternal life with Him in Heaven! Let's see what stops us from getting that gift...
In Session #2 of the WATER Series we learnt that SIN enters the world, sin separates us from God. Sin has consequences and God deals with Sin thought water and eventually through blood! The blood of His Son Jesus. We learnt that Jesus was baptised in water,
that He lived a perfect and POWERFUL life and He could still the storm and calm the waters! Walk on water and change it into wine!
Remember we learnt that one day, as Jesus was traveling through Samaria, Jesus passed through a small village Jacob's well was there and Jesus, hot and tired from the long walk, sat down beside the well about noontime to rest.

3. Light Series Review
The early in the Light Series we learnt that Jesus is the LIGHT of the World. When He walked upon this earth, Jesus was in the business of delivering men from darkness. He is still doing that today.
He is still a Shining Light and a Saviour to all who will come to Him He said, “I am the light.”
|
He didn’t say, “I am a light in Jerusalem.” He said, “I am the light of the world.” That includes us.

c) Teaching the Lesson - Five Means to Spiritual Growth:
|
Read the Bible: (God’s Word)
FIVE STEPS TO KNOWING GOD'S WORD
First, give children a piece of paper, large enough for them to be able to trace around their hand. Have the children trace around their hand.
Optional: Download '5 steps to knowing God's Word' English visual aid colouring pages |
After they are finished with the hand, have a volunteer read each of the verses shown below. Explaining why we are putting each instruction on each finger.
Have the children write the corresponding words:
Hear, Read, Study, Memorize and Meditate on the fingers.
(Show Hand Visual Aid)
On the other side of the hand, write the verse references. When finished, suggest the children keep this in their Bibles to use as a bookmark and a reminder to do all five steps to understand the Bible fully and to allow the Word of God to richly fill their lives.
HEAR (The little finger is the only finger you can fit in your ear! Demonstrate)
Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ.
Shona:
17 Naizvozvo, kutenda kunouya nokunzwa, uye kunzwa neshoko raKristu. (VAROMA 10:17)
READ (The thumb is used to turn a page when you are reading, demonstrate)
Revelation 1:3a Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy.
STUDY (Teachers points her finger and tells you ‘Study’ demonstrate)
Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined (studied) the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Shona:
11 Zvino vaBheria vakanga vane tsika dzakanaka kupfuura vaTesaronika, nokuti vakagamuchira shoko nemwoyo inodisisa uye vachinzvera Magwaro zuva rimwe nerimwe kuti vaone kana zvairehwa naPauro zvaiva izvo. (MABASA 17:11)
MEMORIZE (The tallest finger reminds us of our pledge to God that we will hide His Word in our heart)
Psalm 119:11 I have hidden (memorized) your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Shona:
11 Shoko renyu ndakariviga mumwoyo mangu, kuti ndirege kukutadzirai. (MAPISAREMA 119:11)
MEDITATE (The ring fingers reminds us that if we love God we want to meditate on His ways)
Psalm 119:15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
Shona:
15 Ndinofungisisa zvirevo zvenyu, uye ndinorangarira nzira dzenyu. (MAPISAREMA 119:15)

When you hear God’ Word, read the Bible, study and get to know God, memorize and meditate on the Word, the Bible, you discover who God is and how He wants you to live.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22 (NIV)
It isn't enough to read and study the Bible. We must put its teachings to work in our daily life.
The Bible is like a cookbook. The Bible has God's recipe for becoming a Christian and living a life that is pleasing to Him. A lot of people read the Bible every day. Many of them even go to Sunday School and study the Bible. But it isn't enough just to read the recipe. Reading the Bible won't make you a Christian any more than reading a cookbook will make you a cook. We must follow the recipe in our daily life.
6. APPLICATION/ENCOUNTERING GOD:
CLOSING PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father we thank you for your Word, that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching us, for sometimes rebuking us correcting and training us in righteousness. We want to hear the Word because faith comes from hearing the message. Help us to set aside time to read your Word and study and examine the Scriptures every day. We want to hide your word in our hearts so that I might not sin against you as we consider your ways and walk in them. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
