Session #5 -The Father’s Throne and Jesus’
Exaltation - Bible Verse Hand Book
Session 5 The Father’s Throne and Jesus’ Exaltation
(Rev. 4-5)
II. THE FATHER’S HEAVENLY COURT: THE BEAUTY OF GOD
(REV. 4)
A. 2 I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne
set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 He who sat there was
like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a
rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4 Around
the throne were twenty-four thrones…I saw twenty-four elders
sitting…in white robes; and they had crowns of gold…5
From the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven
lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven
Spirits of God. 6 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like
crystal…around the throne, were four living creatures…
(Rev. 4:2-6)
B. 8 The four living creatures…do not rest
day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!” 9 Whenever the living creatures
give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne…10the
twenty-four elders fall down…and worship Him…and cast
their crowns before the throne, saying: 11“You [Father]
are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You
created all things…” (Rev. 4:8-11)
III. THE GRAND DRAMA IN HEAVEN (REV. 5:1-14)
A. God highly exalted Him in heaven and on earth
9 …God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name
which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth… (Phil.
2:9-10)
B. 13…the Son of Man [Jesus] coming
with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days [the Father]…14Then
to Him was given…a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and
languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion…
(Dan. 7:13–14)
8 I [the Father] will give you [Jesus] the nations
for your inheritance... (Ps. 2:8)
IV. JESUS TAKES THE SCROLL FROM THE FATHER’S HAND
(REV. 5)
To prepare the Church as a Bride to partner with Him in
ruling the earth
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy
people.)
9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those
who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he
added, “These are the true words of God.”
10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me,
“Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with
your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship
God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse,
whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges
and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head
are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows
but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and
his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following
him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and
clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to
strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”
He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.
16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud
voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together
for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of
kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and
the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”
19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies
gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and
his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet
who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had
deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped
its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake
of burning sulfur. 21 The rest were killed with the sword coming
out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged
themselves on their flesh. And I saw an angel coming down out of
heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great
chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the
devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw
him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him
from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were
ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.
I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority
to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because
of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They
had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its
mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned
with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not
come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is
the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection.
The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests
of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
(Rev. 19:7-20:6)
A. John saw a scroll in the Father’s hand:
1 I saw in the right hand of Him [the Father] who sat on the throne
a scroll…sealed with seven seals. 2 I saw a strong angel proclaiming…
“Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”…5
One of the elders said, “…the Lion of the tribe of Judah…has
prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals”…
. (Rev. 5:1-2,5)
F. Seven horns and eyes:
6 in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been
slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits
of God…7 He took the scroll out of the right hand of Him…on
the throne. (Rev. 5:6-7)
V. JESUS IS WORTHY (REV. 5)
8 When He [Jesus] had taken the scroll, the four living creatures
and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having
a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers
of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are
worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals [release end
times judgments]; for You were slain, and have redeemed us
to God by Your blood [proved Your leadership and love] out of every
tribe and tongue…10And have made us kings and priests to our
God; and we shall reign on the earth.” (Rev. 5:8-10)
9You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was
rich, yet for your
sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become
rich. (2 Cor. 8:9)
B. You are worthy:
8 I count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of
Christ… (Phil. 3:8)
C. Father’s promised to make Jesus the head.
18He is the head of the Body…that in all things He may have
the preeminence. (Col. 1:18)
D. Jesus’ inheritance includes having the full authority
12 …saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who
was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and
honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev. 5:12)
E. The word receive is significant. In what sense does
Jesus receive these?
20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him
at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule
and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked,
not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And
God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head
over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness
of him who fills everything in every way. (Eph. 1:20-23)
F. Power (political):
15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD,
all the kings of the earth will revere your glory. (Ps.
102:15)
4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, LORD,
when they hear what you have decreed. (Ps. 138:4)
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth, (Ps. 148:11)
2 The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will
bestow. (Isa. 62:2)
11Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; all nations shall
serve Him. (Ps. 72:11)
G. Riches (financial):
5 Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and
swell with joy;
the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches
of the nations will come.
6 Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and
Ephah.
And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense
and proclaiming the praise of the LORD.
7 All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you, the rams of
Nebaioth will serve you;
they will be accepted as offerings on my altar, and I will adorn
my glorious temple.
8 “Who are these that fly along like clouds, like doves to
their nests?
9 Surely the islands look to me; in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,
bringing your children from afar, with their silver and gold,
to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel,
for he has endowed you with splendor.
10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will
serve you.
Though in anger I struck you, in favor I will show you compassion.
11 Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day
or night,
so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations—
their kings led in triumphal procession.
12 For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish;
it will be utterly ruined.
13 “The glory of Lebanon will come to you, the juniper, the
fir and the cypress together,
to adorn my sanctuary; and I will glorify the place for my feet.
(Isa. 60:5-13)
I. Strength (physical/emotional):
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
(Mk. 12:30)
J. Honor (relational):
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor
your father and mother”—which is the first commandment
with a promise (Eph. 6:1-2)
