Session 2 God’s Sovereign Leadership over History
(Dan. 7:9-14)
I. OUTLINE OF DANIEL 7:1-14
A. Daniel’s first vision: four beasts symbolizing
four world empires
1. Introduction
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a
dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying in bed.
He wrote down the substance of his dream.
2 Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea.
3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out
of the sea. (Dan. 7:1-3)
2. The first three beasts
4 “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an
eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted
from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being,
and the mind of a human was given to it.
5 “And there before me was a second beast, which looked like
a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs
in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat
your fill of flesh!’
6 “After that, I looked, and there before me was another
beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four
wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was
given authority to rule.(Dan. 7:4-6)
3. Fourth beast: Antichrist’s empire foreshadowed
by the Roman Empire
7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and
very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured
its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different
from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.
8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me
was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three
of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like
the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
(Dan. 7:7-8)
4. God’s leadership in the end times
a. God enthroned in majesty
9 “As I looked,
“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened. (Dan. 7:9-10)
b. Destruction of the Antichrist
11 “Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words
the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain
and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. 12 (The
other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed
to live for a period of time.) (Dan. 7:11-12)
c. Jesus’ heavenly coronation as King over all nations
13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was
one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached
the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given
authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of
every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion
that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never
be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
II. INTRODUCTION
B. 7“I saw in the night visions, and behold,
a fourth beast [Antichrist], dreadful and terrible, exceedingly
strong…8 [he had] a mouth speaking pompous words.” (Dan.
7:7-8)
C. Later, Daniel sees that the saints were “given”
into his hand by God.
25“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall
persecute the saints of the Most High…the saints shall be
given into his hand…” (Dan. 7:25)
The phrase “it was given” (or its equivalent),
referring to God, is found often in the books of Daniel and Revelation
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
37 Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has
given you dominion and power and might and glory; 38 in your hands
he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds
in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them
all. You are that head of gold. (Dan. 2:23, 37- 38)
16 Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given
the mind of an animal, till seven times[d] pass by for him.
(Dan. 4:16)
25“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall
persecute the saints of the Most High…the saints shall be
given into his hand…” (Dan. 7:25)
2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held
a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror
bent on conquest.
4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given
power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each
other. To him was given a large sword.
8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was
named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were
given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine
and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. (Rev. 6:2,
4, 8)
1The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had
fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to
the shaft of the Abyss.
3 And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were
given power like that of scorpions of the earth. (Rev. 9:1,
3)
2 But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has
been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for
42 months. (Rev. 11:2)
14 Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf
of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It
ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded
by the sword and yet lived. 15 The second beast was given power
to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image
could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be
killed. (Rev. 13: 14-15)
D. John saw that God gave the Antichrist authority or influence
over every nation
5 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies
and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened
its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling
place and those who live in heaven. 7 It was given power to wage
war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it
was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.
(Rev. 13:5-7)
God will grant authority to allow certain terrible things
to occur
5 They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for
five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting
of a scorpion when it strikes. (Rev. 9:1, 3, 5)
2 But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has
been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for
42 months. (Rev. 11:2)
5He [Antichrist] was given...authority [by God]
to continue for forty-two months. 7It was granted to him to make
war with the saints and to overcome them. Authority was given him
[by God] over every tribe, tongue, and nation. (Rev. 13:5-7)
14 Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf
of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It
ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded
by the sword and yet lived. 15 The second beast was given power
to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image
could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be
killed. (Rev. 13:14-15)
E. All authority belongs to Jesus
18“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
(Mt. 28:18)
In the Great Tribulation the seven seals of judgment are
released by Jesus, not the devil
5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the
Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He
is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Rev.
5:5)
1 I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then
I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder,
“Come!”
3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living
creature say, “Come!”
5 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living
creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me
was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his
hand.
7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the
fourth living creature say, “Come!”
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls
of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony
they had maintained.
12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake.
The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole
moon turned blood red, (Rev. 6:1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12)
When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for
about half an hour. (Rev. 8:1)
G. God raised up Pharaoh in Moses’ day as the most
powerful man on earth
16 But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might
show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the
earth. (Ex. 9:16)
17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this
very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name
might be proclaimed in all the earth.” (Rom. 9:17)
God raised up an evil Assyrian leader named Sennacherib
to judge Israel in 721 BC
5 “Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger,
in whose hand is the club of my wrath! (Isa. 10:5)
He raised up Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon in 586 BC to discipline
Israel
7 I will send destroyers against you,
each man with his weapons,
and they will cut up your fine cedar beams
and throw them into the fire. (Jer. 22:7)
9 I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon,” declares the LORD, “and I will bring
them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding
nations. I will completely destroy them and make them an object
of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin.
12 “But when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish
the king of Babylon and his nation, the land of the Babylonians,
for their guilt,” declares the LORD, “and will make
it desolate forever. (Jer. 25:9, 12)
6 Now I will give all your countries into the hands of my servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals
subject to him. (Jer. 27:6)
10 Then say to them, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the
God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, and I will set his throne over these stones I have buried
here; he will spread his royal canopy above them. (Jer.
43:10)
5“Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,
that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth
to seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are a feared and dreaded people;
they are a law to themselves
and promote their own honor. (Hab. 1:5-7)
God raised up the Persians to judge the Babylonians
3 I have commanded those I prepared for battle;
I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath— those who
rejoice in my triumph.
4 Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude!
Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together!
The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war.
5 They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens—
the LORD and the weapons of his wrath—
to destroy the whole country. (Isa. 13:3-5)
17The Scripture says to Pharaoh, “I have raised you up, that
I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in
all the earth.” (Rom. 9:17)
H. God showed Daniel that He sets into place the leaders
of the nations to serve His purposes.
17“…the Most High…gives it [power] to
whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.”
(Dan. 4:17)
1There is no authority except from God…the authorities that
exist are appointed by God… 4 He is God’s minister,
an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. (Rom.
13:1-4)
I. The Father has set the day for Jesus to return, and
has set the boundaries of all nations
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the
angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was
in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man
(Mt. 24:36)
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or
dates the Father has set by his own authority. (Acts 1:7)
26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit
the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history
and the boundaries of their lands. (Acts 17:26)
The unfolding of kingdoms in an appointed time frame
31 “Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large
statue—an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance.
32 The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms
of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron,
its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. 34 While you were
watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck
the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. 35 Then
the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were all
broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the
summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the
rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the
whole earth.
36 “This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the
king. 37 Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven
has given you dominion and power and might and glory; 38 in your
hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and
the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler
over them all. You are that head of gold.
39 “After you, another kingdom will arise, inferior to yours.
Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth.
40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron—for
iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things
to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. 41 Just as
you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly
of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some
of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay.
42 As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom
will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw
the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture
and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.
44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set
up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to
another people.
It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but
it will itself endure forever. 45 This is the meaning of the vision
of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a
rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the
gold to pieces.
“The great God has shown the king what will take place in
the future. The dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy.”
(Dan. 2:31-45)
3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out
of the sea.
This beast had four heads, and it was
given authority to rule.
(Dan.
7:1-8)
Belshazzar saw God’s finger write “MENE,”
which spoke of his days being numbered
26 “Here is what these words mean:
Mene[e]: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it
to an end. (Dan. 5:26)
J. Many in the nations will worship the Antichrist
2The dragon [Satan] gave him [Antichrist] his
power, his throne, and great authority… 3All the world marveled
and followed the beast. 4So they…worshiped the beast [Antichrist],
saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with
him?” (Rev. 13:2–3)
III. VISION OF THE THRONE: GOD’S LEADERSHIP OVER
THE NATIONS
A. Immediately after the Father’s majesty is revealed
to Daniel
9 “As I looked,
“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened. (Dan. 7:9-10)
The Father’s plan to exalt Jesus as a human king
over all the earth is also shown to him
11 “Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words
the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain
and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. 12 (The
other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed
to live for a period of time.)
(Dan. 7:11-14)
B. God is enthroned in majesty in His heavenly courtroom
9“I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient
of Days [the Father] was seated; His garment was white
as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne
was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire; 10a fiery stream [river]
issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered
to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court
was seated, and the books were opened.” (Dan. 7:9-10)
C. Ancient of Days:
3. In God’s permissive will, He gives evil men surprising
latitude to act wickedly.
30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain,
31 and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.
(Dan. 5:30-31)
D. White as snow:
14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow,
and his eyes were like blazing fire. (Rev. 1:14)
E. His throne: (Rev. 4:2-6:17)
Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount
Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s
name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven
like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder.
The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.
3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four
living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except
the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those
who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins.
They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from
among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5
No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. (Rev.
14:1-5)
2 And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and,
standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the
beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps
given them by God 3 and sang the song of God’s servant Moses
and of the Lamb:
“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the nations.
4 Who will not fear you, Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
5 After this I looked, and I saw in heaven the temple—that
is, the tabernacle of the covenant law—and it was opened.
6 Out of the temple came the seven angels with the seven plagues.
They were dressed in clean, shining linen and wore golden sashes
around their chests. 7 Then one of the four living creatures gave
to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of
God, who lives for ever and ever. 8 And the temple was filled with
smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could
enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were
completed. (Rev. 15:2-8)
After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude
in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 And again they shouted:
“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”
4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down
and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
both great and small!”
6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar
of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.” (Rev. 19:1-8)
G. A fiery stream:
2I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those
who have the victory over the beast…standing on the sea of
glass, having harps of God. (Rev. 15:2)
H. The seven throne scenes in the book of Revelation. We
have access to God’s throne now to find grace and mercy.
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time
of need. (Heb. 4:16)
3The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it [New Jerusalem],
and His servants
shall serve Him. 4They shall see His face, and His name shall be
on their foreheads...
5And they shall reign forever and ever. (Rev. 22:3-5)
4God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be
no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain,
for the former things have passed away. (Rev. 21:4)
I. All of God’s enemies will stand before His throne.
11I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it…12I saw
the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened…and
the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which
were written in the books…15Anyone not found written in the
Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:11–15)
J. The books were opened:
32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot
me out of the book you have written.” (Ex. 32:32)
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be. (Ps. 139:16)
6 The LORD will write in the register of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.” (Ps. 87:6)
10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened. (Dan. 7:10)
“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your
people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has
not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that
time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the
book—will be delivered. (Dan. 12:1)
20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but
rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Lk.
10:20)
The Book of Life records the actions of believers
3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since
they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along
with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the
book of life. (Phil. 4:3)
5 The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white.
I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life,
but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.
(Rev. 3:5)
8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all
whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life,
the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world. (Rev.
13:8)
8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will
come up out of the Abyss and go to its destruction. The inhabitants
of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life
from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see
the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come. (Rev.
17:8)
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne,
and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book
of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as
recorded in the books.
15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life
was thrown into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:12, 15)
27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does
what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written
in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev. 21:27)
The pompous words of the Antichrist
8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me
was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three
of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like
the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully. (Dan.
7:8)
K. His garment:
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready. (Rev. 19:7)
M. Thrones were put in place:
4Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones
I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they
had crowns of gold on their heads. (Rev. 4:4)
N. The court was seated:
9 “As I looked,
“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened. (Dan. 7:9- 10)
IV. THE FATHER’S ROYAL COURT
A. Around the throne is God’s royal court—it
is the place of majesty, strength, and beauty, etc.
6Honor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His
sanctuary. (Ps. 96:6)
B. God’s beauty
3He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance;
and there was a rainbow around the throne…like an emerald.
4Around the throne were twenty-four thrones… I saw twenty-four
elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold
on their head. 5From the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings,
and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne,
which are the seven Spirits of God. 6Before the throne there was
a sea of glass, like crystal…around the throne, were four
living creatures… (Rev. 4:3-6)
C. I see four main categories with twelve details in John’s
description of God’s royal court:
1. The beauty of God’s person: how God looks, feels,
and acts
3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby.
A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. (Rev.
4:3)
2. The beauty of God’s people: the Church enthroned,
robed, and crowned
4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated
on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and
had crowns of gold on their heads. (Rev. 4:4)
3. The beauty of God’s power: manifestations of power
in lightning, thunder, voices
5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals
of thunder. (Rev. 4:5a)
4. The beauty of God’s presence: His fire on lamps,
seraphim, and the sea
5 In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the
seven spirits of God. 6 Also in front of the throne there was what
looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and
they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. 7 The first living
creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had
a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. (Rev.
4:5b-7)
V. THE DESTRUCTION OF THE ANTICHRIST (DAN. 7:11-12)
A. The Antichrist and his empire will be destroyed at Jesus’
second coming.
11I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which
the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast [Antichrist]
was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning
flame. 12As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion
taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
(Dan. 7:11-12)
B. Pompous words:
20 I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about
the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the
horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes
and a mouth that spoke boastfully. (Dan. 7: 20)
5He [Antichrist] was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies…6He
opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name,
His tabernacle… (Rev. 13:5-6)
C. The beast was slain:
11I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and
given to the burning flame. (Dan. 7:11)
26But the court shall be seated, and they shall take away his [Antichrist’s]
dominion, to consume and destroy it forever. (Dan. 7:26)
D. 8The lawless one [Antichrist] will be revealed,
whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy
with the brightness of His coming. (2 Thes. 2:8)
19I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered
together to make war against Him [Jesus]…20Then the
beast was captured, and with him the false prophet…
These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the
mouth of Him [Jesus]. (Rev. 19:19-21)
F. Their lives were prolonged:
2Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard [Dan. 7:6; Greece],
his feet were like the feet of a bear [Dan. 7:5; Persia],
and his mouth like the mouth of a lion [Dan. 7:5; Babylon].
The dragon [Satan] gave him his power, his throne, and
great authority. (Rev. 13:2)
VI. JESUS’ HEAVENLY CORONATION AS KING OVER ALL NATIONS
(DAN. 7:13-14)
A. Jesus will be crowned as the King of kings over the
earth
13Behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before
Him. 14Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that
all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion
is an everlasting dominion…and His kingdom the one which shall
not be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
B. IHOPKC holds to the historic premillennial view of the
end times, with a post-tribulation rapture, and emphasizing a victorious,
praying Church
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and
gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by
the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to
himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and blameless. (Eph. 5:25-27)
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready. (Rev. 19:7)
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the
one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty
come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water
of life. (Rev. 22:17)
C.Jesus spoke of sitting on the glorious throne in Jerusalem
that Daniel pointed to.
31When the Son of Man comes in His glory…then He will sit
on the throne of His glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before
Him, and He will separate them… (Mt. 25:31–32)
D. Son of Man:
13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was
one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached
the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given
authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of
every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion
that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never
be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory
with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to
what they have done. (Mt. 16:27)
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven.
And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the
Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great
glory. (Mt. 24:30)
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I
say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting
at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of
heaven.” (Mt. 26:64)
38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and
sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he
comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” (Mk.
8:38)
26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in
clouds with great power and glory. (Mk. 13:26)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the
Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming
on the clouds of heaven.” (Mk. 14:62)
26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be
ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the
Father and of the holy angels. (Lk. 9:26)
27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud
with power and great glory. (Lk. 21:27)
69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right
hand of the mighty God.”
(Lk. 22:69)
2. Pilate represented the most powerful government on earth.
11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it
were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me
over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” (Jn. 19:11)
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I
say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting
at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of
heaven.” (Mt. 26:64)
F.Clouds: Daniel saw Jesus coming with the clouds of heaven.
20 After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the
desert. 21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud
to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give
them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither
the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left
its place in front of the people. (Ex. 13:21-22)
9 The LORD said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a
dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and
will always put their trust in you.” Then Moses told the LORD
what the people had said.
16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning,
with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast.
Everyone in the camp trembled. (Ex. 19:9, 16)
10 When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled
the temple of the LORD. 11 And the priests could not perform their
service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his
temple. (1Kgs. 8:10-11)
See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud
and is coming to Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him,
and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear. (Isa. 19:1)
13 Look! He advances like the clouds,
his chariots come like a whirlwind,
his horses are swifter than eagles.
Woe to us! We are ruined! (Jer. 4:13)
4 Then the glory of the LORD rose from above the cherubim and moved
to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and
the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the LORD.
(Ezek. 10:4)
When Jesus spoke of His return to earth, He usually mentioned
coming on the clouds.
30All the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the
Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
(Mt. 24:30)
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I
say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting
at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of
heaven.” (Mt. 26:64)
26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in
clouds with great power and glory.27 And he will send his angels
and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth
to the ends of the heavens. (Mk. 13:26-27)
27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud
with power and great glory. (Lk. 21:27)
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and
a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when
suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men
of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking
into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into
heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into
heaven.” (Acts 1:9-11)
17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught
up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And so we will be with the Lord forever. (1 Thes. 4:17)
7He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him…all
the…earth will mourn. (Rev. 1:7)
14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated
on the cloud was one like a son of man[b] with a crown of gold on
his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came
out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting
on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time
to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16
So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth,
and the earth was harvested. (Rev. 14:14-16)
4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before him—his name is the LORD. (Ps. 68:4)
1 Praise the LORD, my soul.
LORD my God, you are very great;
you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment;
he stretches out the heavens like a tent
3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot
and rides on the wings of the wind. (Ps. 104:1-3)
G. Daniel saw the saints receiving authority over the nations
in partnership with the Son of Man
27The kingdom…shall be given to the people, the saints of
the Most High. (Dan. 7:27)
26 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I
will give authority over the nations— 27 that one ‘will
rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like
pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father.
(Rev.2:26-27)
21To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne…
(Rev. 3:21)
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our
God,
and they will reign[b] on the earth.” (Rev.5:10)
4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority
to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because
of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They[a]
had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its
mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned
with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not
come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is
the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in
the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them,
but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with
him for a thousand years. (Rev.20:4-6)
5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of
a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them
light. And they will reign for ever and ever. (Rev.22:5)
H. Commissioned as King of kings:
11Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; all nations shall
serve Him. (Ps. 72:11)
J. 11I heard the voice of many angels around the
throne, the living creatures, and the elders… 12saying with
a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive
power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and
blessing!” (Rev. 5:11-12)
L. 11The voice of many angels…12saying…,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches
and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing.”
(Rev. 5:11-12)
N. Revelation 5 describes Jesus’ destiny
on the earth as a man—He is fully God and fully man.
9…God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name
which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth…
(Phil. 2:9-10)
