Christian Youth to help promote Sports Evangelism, they have an
excellent football team - Concorde and basketball team - Friendship.
Accommodation can be provided at the Mission
House for the young people, but a bus is urgently needed to
assist with transportation. We are looking to work with Christian colleges, churches, International
              organizations such as World
Sports Ministrie. Caribbean organizations such as Caribbean
Sports Reach and The Alliance of Christian
Athletics of Haiti to see this become a reality in Haiti. UCT is researching the possibility of introducing
              Kicking AIDS Out of Haiti.
Kicking AIDS Out is an international Network of organisations working
together to use sport and physical activity as a means of raising
awareness about HIV and AIDS and motivating behaviour change among
youth. The network shares information and best practices.
It promotes policy development, shares resource material and represents
a forum for exchange and discussion. Kicking AIDS Out is an approach of combining sports
activities and addressing HIV/AIDS The mission is to empower youth to positively influence
their lives and the lives of others by actively enhancing life skills
through sport Kicking AIDS Out! promotes the use of sport as a
tool for development. Sports & physical activities are used
to build awareness about HIV and AIDS through educational games
and activities which encourage peers to discuss issues that affect
their lives and their communities. Programmes implemented by member
organisations integrate sport skills and life skills through movement
games, role plays, drama and other cultural and recreational activities.
Central to success and sustainability is capacity building. Kicking
AIDS Out develops programs to train coaches, trainers and leaders,
building capacity at the individual, organizational and community
              level. Why football?
Sport is a fun and exciting way to draw people
together it creates an environment conducive to sharing positive
messages about HIV and AIDS and other health related issues. It provides opportunities to influence knowledge
and behaviour through the creation of meaningful mentoring relationships
between participants, Peer Leaders and coaches. There is the potential to emphasize and enhance
the life skill learning that is already inherent in participating
in sports. Empowering the youth with a significant role
in organizing and facilitating the physical activities further
capitalizes on the power of sport to teach valuable life lessons.
