SPRINGS OF HOPE - Strategy
To achieve
project results, Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre
Orphan and Vulnerable Childrens (OVC) project proposes a multi-sectoral,
integrated, gender-sensitive rights-based approach to reaching OVC
in greatest need. The project will work with and strengthen the OVC
community based service organization network, OVC and the community
to scale up the existing efforts while catalyzing and encouraging
new approaches and innovative partnerships that provide high quality
support for OVC. The approach will involve direct delivery of targeted
scholastic materials for the OVC, collaboration and networking with
other service providers to facilitate mobilization of OVC to their
participation in the project, advocacy, communication and promotion
of OVC issues through policy, and political, church and good Samaritans
leadership.
The preferred approach facilitates decentralized decision making
and OVC programming; provides for the active participation of the
target groups; promotes the exchange of better practices and lesson
sharing; improves the targeting to ensure OVC most in need are reached
out first; and promotes extra resource mobilization to facilitate
provision of holistic OVC interventions. The comprehensive, multisectoral
and integrated approach will therefore facilitate the achievement
of geographical and target group reach out expansion, reduce duplication
and diminution of impact and through exchange of best practices,
the approach will promote adaptation of effective OVC programming
for improved delivery of OVC services.
Existing Efforts to solve the Problem:
Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre HIV/AIDS control
and prevention program is currently working with other partners,
Happy Child Foundation, Uganda Red Cross, Busia, Foc- Rev Ministries
in providing trainings in HIV/AIDS issues, nutritional and basic
social support to poverty stricken people and households affected
by HIV/AIDS in Busia. Apart from making available quality counseling
services to target communities and households, the programme is
also providing HIV/AIDS information, education and communication
services.
As a result 2,047 HIV/AIDS infected people and orphans have been
accessed with the counseling services, small animals and agricultural
implements including pigs, goats, maize and beans have been provided.
The programme has also developed HIV/AIDS advocacy and communication
strategy and action plan.
To this end 39 animators from all over the District
have been trained in home management and improvement, 30 counselors
equipped with psychosocial skills, gender awareness raised, and
communities mobilized to participate in their own development, and
there is a general decrease in domestic violence, rape, alcoholism
while HIV/AIDS patients have reduced feeling of isolation, rejection,
and shame.
