their shoes on.
3. ACTIVE PRAISE CHORUS (10 minutes)
I am a CHRISTIAN (Use Video and lyrics)
4. INTIMATE WORSHIP (5 minutes)
Draw me close to you (Use Video and lyrics)
Remember last week we learnt that God spent 14 years just preparing
his chosen leader, Joseph.
Preparation takes time and let us be patient and not lose heart
during the most difficult stages of our preparation.
Remember in your struggle when you are down to nothing God is up
to something. Every event in your life has been ordained by God
and will contribute to your "palace experience."
Your life may be taking some strange twists and turns but the One
who holds your tomorrows is in control.
(Ask the children to come up and share some of the twists and
turns that have happened in their life following the great storm)
b. Learn a Bible Verse (5minutes)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and
heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So
don’t be troubled or afraid." John 14:27
Dramatize: Use Visual Aid
Jesus stands with outstretched hands holding a gift. Two children
demonstrate peace of mind and heart. One touches her head, the other
draws a large heart on his/her chest. One child holds the Visual
aid of the world. One child acts troubled, pacing up and down holding
his head and wringing his hands. One child acts afraid, hiding and
c. Teach the Lesson (15 minutes)
I must confess that when I was a child, I was afraid of the dark.
At the end of the day, when it was time to turn out the lights and
go to bed, I wanted to know that I was not alone in the darkness.
That is where my Teddy Bear came to the rescue. Somehow, the darkness
was not so frightening with "Teddy" in the bed with me.
Have you ever been afraid? (Give the children a chance to share)
Of course you have. We are all afraid at times. It is nothing to
be ashamed of -- even adults are sometimes afraid. Some of us may
be afraid of the dark. Some may be afraid of the thunder and lightening
that comes with a storm. Here are just a few of the things that
people are afraid of: bugs, bees, snakes, heights, dentists, doctors,
dogs, cats, mice, and germs.
When Jesus told his disciples that he was going to return to his
Father, they were afraid. What would happen to them? Would the enemies
recognize them as his followers and try to harm them?
Jesus knew that his disciples were afraid and he offered these
words to comfort them. "I am leaving you with a gift —
peace of mind and heart. Don't be troubled or afraid"
Remember what I have told you: 'I am going away, but I will
come back to you again. I will come and get you, so that you will
always be with me.'"
These words were a great comfort to his disciples and they are
a great comfort to us today. When Jesus returned to his Father heaven,
he asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit to comfort his disciples
until the day when he returned.
That includes you and me! What a wonderful gift Jesus has given
us -- peace of mind and heart. We no longer have anything to fear.
Whenever we find ourselves in the dark or in the storms of life,
Jesus is with us.
Optional: Watch the Peace video if possible
On the night Jesus was born, the angels said, "Glory to
God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
Where can we find this peace that the angels were talking about?
Can we really find "peace on earth?"
I saw a bumper sticker on a car one day that said, "Know
Jesus, Know Peace - No Jesus, No Peace." That really
says it all! If we want to know peace, we can only know that peace
when we know Jesus, the Prince of Peace. If we don't know Jesus,
we can have no peace.
Look at where God has now taken our good friend Joseph. Read Genesis
Caribbean Story 'And Puppy': Chapter 11 Peace
like a river
6. APPLICATION / ENCOUNTERING GOD
Play some quiet worship music, have the children come and quietly
sit with their eyes closed, ask God to speak to them and fill their
hearts with the peace that passes all understanding. Ask God to
guard their minds, ask God to remove the spirit of fear and reveal
His love and power giving them a sound mind.
Father, we thank you for the Holy Spirit who guides us and calms
our fears. We also thank you for the promise that one day we will
be in Heaven with Jesus. In his name we pray. Amen.
By the end of this lesson the children should be able to:
• Know that Jesus has a gift for them
• Know that whenever we find ourselves in the dark or in the
storms of life, Jesus is with us
• "Know Jesus, Know Peace - No Jesus, No Peace."
