Two
years later in 2005, Christopher received a letter from Mathius
Luwaga, an alumnus of the orphanage who requested financial
assistance to continue his schooling.

By this time Christopher was at university. His
parents therefore took the matter in hand and having confirmed the
authenticity of the request, agreed to finance Mathius’ education.

Mathius completed his A’ levels in December 2006. The idea
of setting up an educational sponsorship program to assist AIDS
orphans in Uganda arose out of this experience of seeing a life
transformed through financial assistance. This assistance allowed
Mathius to complete primary and secondary education unlike his older
brother who was forced to leave school in S2 (equivalent to Form
3) due to lack of funding.
By June 2007, this young man – who is one of the very few
people in his village to have gone to school beyond the primary
level – had completed A’ levels, was preparing to sit
Grade 4 (Piano) examinations with the Royal Schools of Music, and
was about to begin undergraduate studies at Makerere University,
the oldest and one of the best universities in Uganda.
Mathius’ Barbadian ‘Mom’, Veronica
Evelyn, visited Uganda on a fact finding mission in April (12th-28th),
2007. The purpose of this trip was to assess the needs of AIDS orphans
and other vulnerable children in the Rakai District with a view
to setting up a formal educational sponsorship program in Barbados.
Findings were expected to inform the establishment
of a non-profit organization dedicated to motivating and providing
opportunities for Barbadian school children to help create a better
life for orphans and vulnerable children. Proteqt
Children’s Foundation became a registered charity in 2008.
To God be the glory!
