Suriname
is the smallest independent country on the South American continent;
it mostly consists of tropical rain forest, there is a great diversity
of flora and fauna.
The population of the country
is made up of . 37% Hindustani their ancestors emigrated from
northern India in the latter part of the 19th century. 31%
Creole (mixed white and black). 15%Javanese, 10% "Maroons"
their African ancestors were brought to the country as slaves
in the 17th centuries and escaped to the interior. 2% Amerindian,
2% Chinese and 1% Caucasian.
Over
one quarter of the population are Hindu, approximately a quarter
are Protestant mostly Moravian, 23% are Roman Catholic, 20% Muslim
with other indigenous beliefs making up a small percentage of the
population.
However there is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
