Daughters
of Destiny- Caribbean & Latin America Women’s
Conference and Production - 2000.
God has blessed us with the vision, expertise and wisdom
needed to execute these plans. We intend to challenge and eradicate the
foolish notion that women’s interaction with each other is superficial
and often fraught with conflict by teaching women to embrace each other
to quicken the healing processes which is needed in their lives.
Our Conference will kick off with a full scale drama,
dance & musical production entitled “From Brokeness to Wholeness”,
written by Ms. Tweann Hall.
This production will be held at the Daphne Joseph-Hackette
Theatre, Queen’s Park, November 3, 4, 10 & 11, 2000. The cast
of this production is drawn from the Barbados Youth for Christ Drama Group
under the direction of Ms. Evelyn Broomes.

Business & Government Support
To date, the following businesses and Government Departments
are working us:
Air Jamaica is the official airlines of the Conference.
The Ministry of Social Transformation has committed itself
to sponsoring twenty (20) young women from Somerville Industrial School
to the Conference.
The National Cultural Foundation will be assisting in
the Production. Ms. Karen Pestaina will be in charge of the dance aspect
of the Production, discussions are also in process in respect to NCF offering
marketing exposure in their magazine and on next year’s calendar
of events.
K & K Building also sponsored (5) five young women
to the Conference. Other business houses are either donating or sponsoring
women to the Conference.
We were able to meet with the Ambassador of Costa Rico
extend an official invitation to the First Lady of Costa Rico to be apart
of the Conference. This is an area that will be followed up next year
to foster greater alliances between the Caribbean and Latin America.
In the short and long term we will be seeking endorsements
from women’s organisations and women’s rights advocates across
Barbados with a view to making the first step towards action oriented
partnerships. Organisations to be targeted include:
UNIFEM PAHO PAREDOS UNICEF
NOW The Sorptimists
Business and Professional Women’s Club
Marketing / Communications Thrust
We have been sharing the vision of the Organisation- especially
the Conference- with Churches around the island and to date the response
has been very good. We have so far gained the support of Church leaders
and we will sustain these efforts by seeking to remain visible in the
Church community. The services of a PR Consultant were recently acquired
to assist in devising and branding and communications strategies.
The Conference will be heavily promoted in St. Vincent
and Antigua. Persons are already in place as our representatives in these
islands. Our CEO Mrs. Welch has already travelled to these islands and
shared the Daughters of Destiny vision. To date 37 persons from St. Vincent
have registered for the conference. These conference participants will
be travelling up to Barbados on a special EC Express charter flight.
Promotion will take the form of radio programs, addressing
church groups, printed material (flyers and posters) e-mail and mass faxing.
Long Term Goals:
D.O.D is an organisation with a definite vision for the
future. Over the next (3) three years we will be implementing some ministry
plans as out lined in the attachment Our Vision.
Already, specialised areas of ministry are being clarified
and researched as we gear ourselves for the fulfilment of our purpose
of touching lives in Caribbean through the touching the community just
as Jesus did by taking his gospel to persons in ways that they can most
relate to.
