SPRINGS OF HOPE - Background

Busia district is located in the south –eastern part of the republic of Uganda, north of Lake Victoria and west of the republic of Kenya. It’s approximately 197km from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. The district lies approximately between longitudes 33? 5’ east and 34 1’East, latitude 0 10 North and 0 35’North. The district has one county with two electoral constituencies comprising fourteen sub counties.

Socio-economic and political attributes coupled with cultural beliefs, witchcraft and inadequate sensitisation have widely contributed to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases/infections including HIV and consequently to the increase of Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) in the district. According to the District Health Survey Report – Busia District, it is estimated that over 11% of the adults in Busia are HIV positive, far beyond the national average and has about 16,880 OVC.

Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre

A non profit making grass root organization based in Busia, Uganda that serves orphans and vulnerable children orphaned or otherwise made vulnerable by the HIV/AIDS crisis and extreme poverty. It’s a community based organisation which was established in March 2008 by a group of local Ugandans motivated by Christ’s love and compassion for the child.

 
 

Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre operates as a community based organization having registered with Busia District Local government Authority department of community Development (Reg. No CBS/324/011/012)

The purpose is to work with poor and marginalized groups by way of improving their livelihood while promoting self-reliance through education support, health services, environment protection, advocacy, food security and Net working.

For the past five years, Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre has been distributing mosquito nets and scholastic materials to 200 school going children OVC of Busia District.

It’s is on this ground that we want to scale up the number to 500 OVC.


The ministry also carries out parental education on relevant child care needs together with growth monitoring and promotion including nutrition for mothers and children below 6 years.

Apprenticeship skills development. The foundation offers vocational skills training to vulnerable teenagers. This includes tailoring, carpentry, salon, mechanics, and brick making. This is done either on mentoring basis, by attaching them to local artisans, or through vocational training at the project sites.

Springs of Hope Care Ministry and Orphanage Centre enjoys a good track record of work. We have had positive collaborative net working with both local and international stakeholders as well as our partners. We have worked closely with the local leadership, police, Uganda Net work of Aids service organizations, global fund, USAID.
