UNITED
CARIBBEAN TRUST -Gospelfest
WITH
a delicate blend of Bajan food and great gospel music, a joyous noise
was made unto the Lord at the climax of Gospelfest yesterday.
More than 3 000 worshippers from Barbados, Britain, the
United States and the Caribbean converged on Farley Hill National Park,
St Peter, for One Awesome Day.
With overcast skies and dampness on the grounds, worshippers
travelled with blankets and sheets while enjoying music and a picnic-like
atmosphere. Occasionally, sunshine peeped through, but there was no rain
up to mid-afternoon.
Vendors set up their stalls, providing chicken wings,
hot-dogs, hamburgers, snacks, sweets and drinks for patrons who did not
pack lunch.
On the stage, there was a variety of musical ministry
for all to enjoy, from reggae, R&B, pop, rock, dance hall, calypso
and standard from local chorales and others from overseas. Even emcee
Ronnie Clarke of Gospel 790 AM added his voice with a song which focused
on his undeniable love for Jesus. It was based on his brother Rupee's
Tempted To Touch single.
Some parents brought play-pens
for their young ones and there was a supervised Children's Way area with
fun, friendly activities.
In addition, the Gospelfest Committee made the official
T-shirts of the festival in a variety of colours, CDs, tapes, books and
arm bands available for a reasonable fee.
Religious-oriented station from Jamaica, Love 101 FM,
was on hand to transmit a live broadcast to listeners back home.
Some of the performances included a spiritual dance by
Praise Academy Of Dance Barbados, The Soul Winners, Simon The Prodigy
Alleyne, Lady Richard, and Danah (also from Barbados); Michelle Jean-Marie
(Britain), Agincourt Voices (Canada), and gospel tracks by DJ Marshy Redz
(Jamaica).
