CARRIACOU
- a visit to Gouyave
Tuesday 21st September 2004
Mrs.
Esther Fleary, Hospital Administrator advised that the project should
focus on the plight of Carriacou and one area in Grenada and was delighted
to hear that we intended a visit Gouyave, the small and now devastated
fishing village located on the west coast of Grenada plus the inland forest
village of Clozier.
Due to an immanent meeting with the honorable Minister Elvin Nimrod of
Carriacou and Petite Martinique affairs on Wednesday a decision was made
to visit Gouyave today, Tuesday.

The needs of this devastated area in Grenada cannot
be underestimated. The team worked all night to put together small
packages of hope for these fisher folk. Seen here project co ordinator
Dawnay R. St. John and Jenny Tryhane at 'base camp' |
Small bags of rice and sugar were bagged up a lifeline thrown out
to let the villagers know that there was hope and help on the way.

|
Walter Oliver donated his 36' fishing boat and a local diesel
supplier offered the fuel to take the supplies to Gouyave.
|
Kayaks leant a hand and the boat was packed heading for a devastated
and dangerous environment.
